In the Old Man Emu 4x4 suspension range, the Nitrocharger Plus shock absorber model, here in Heavy Duty setting, is the most advanced and innovative on the market and is now available for many vehicles. Designed by a dedicated team of ARB engineers for the Old Man Emu suspension ground connection division as part of a comprehensive development program, Nitrocharger Plus 4x4 shock absorbers offer the best control, durability, and most comfortable ride regardless of the terrain.

The purpose of a spring is to support the weight of a vehicle and its load, and the purpose of the shock absorber is to control the spring by absorbing excess energy. In doing so, it has a significant impact on your vehicle's ride and handling.

During the development of OME Nitrocharger Plus shock absorbers, particular attention was paid to matching them with the specific springs they were intended to control. Engineers adapted the shock absorber valves to work with the different springs in the range. As a result, there are often 2 versions of shock absorbers available for each vehicle. Whether for work or leisure, ARB has a solution for almost any application.

The Nitrocharger Plus range uses significant advancements in key components as well as cutting-edge valve technology to ensure enormous improvements in ride, comfort, and handling regardless of the terrain.

Vehicle-specific valves ensure a match between the shock absorber's setting, your choice of springs, installed accessories, and the required load capacity. This means there is a Nitrocharger Plus shock absorber to meet your needs, regardless of the terrain or vehicle use.

Nitrocharger Plus shock absorbers feature the most consistent, balanced, and precisely tuned valve system on the market.

Here are the main features:

Twin-tube steel body

As its name suggests, the twin-tube has a second tube inside the shock absorber to separate oil and nitrogen gas. Old Man Emu's Ride Control engineers have spent countless hours designing and testing it to ensure that the OME Nitrocharger shock absorber valve is precisely matched to a selection of OME springs suitable for the accessories installed on your vehicle, as well as your load requirements.

Tests are carried out both in the field with sophisticated data logging equipment, and inside the OME laboratory using shock dynamometers to ensure durability in all conditions. Thanks to the Nitrocharger Plus's vehicle-specific valve technology, owners will benefit from improvements in ride control and comfort, whether on-road or off-road.

What is compression and rebound damping?

Damping refers to the slowing down of the shock absorber's oscillation. This is automatically controlled by a series of valves that slow down the movement of hydraulic fluid through the piston. The valves control the movement of the pistons during the compression and rebound strokes.

What effect do these settings have on a vehicle?

The compression valve setting affects the comfort or firmness of the suspension when the vehicle's suspension compresses. Too firm and the vehicle will feel every bump and ripple in the road surface as the shock absorber tries to prevent the spring from compressing freely. Too soft and the ride will become more comfortable, however, more body roll may be felt when cornering and the vehicle may nose dive when braking, resulting in less control. The suspension can also easily bottom out on compression stops.

The rebound valve setting affects the speed at which the shock absorber allows the spring to return to ride height once it has been compressed. Higher-rated springs are used to maintain correct ride height when greater constant accessories or loads are added to the vehicle. When these springs are compressed with a greater load, the energy stored in the spring is also greater and requires additional rebound damping control.
